Which Tax Software Is Best For Tax Preparers??

)

Q: What do you think of the tax software packages for CPAs. They cost a lot compared to TurboTax or H&R Block, but then they have better customer service and smarter technology. Is that an advantage?

A: I’m on H&R Block’s payroll; I think it has worked out OK for me. Of course, the negative is that if one of my friends wants to save money on taxes by shopping elsewhere — there’s not much stopping him (though he might be missing on some value-added).

Q: Compare TurboTax with H&R Block; compare TaxCut with Financial Software; compare Axiom with PowerTax; who has the best tax prep software?

A: There are many choices in all price ranges, but again (to borrow another quote) “there ain’t no free lunch.” If you get too cheap, there could be problems under audit, simple things like use of unlicensed programmers or source code that isn’t reviewed very closely before release. If you pay more than $50-$60 per year for your return preparation software it becomes harder to find value in bargain packages that offer little but basic functionality at prices 30-something percent of what really good package would cost annually … so before you buy an inexpensive package of tax prep software… remember what Bob Dole said about government programs having large price tags “They charge all your neighbors back.”

This Page is designed by a Tech Blogger for a Tech Blogger. I’ll be donating 10% of my sales from this book to various chapters of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor and memory of my brother who has MS. He passed away in December 2014 at age 27 after battling the disease for five years. My wife and I have been helping his mother with all the expenses she’s had with him over that time, so we decided to create an ebook sale page to raise some money for her and any other family members who may need help. Besides helping out people it always helps me when I’m thinking about ways to sell more things or reach a new audience through blogging/publishing a book, so here it goes! Edited by Randy Pausch
